How do you measure your blood pressure without a blood pressure monitor?

December 7, 2011 No Comments

It is almost impossible to measure your blood pressure accurately without a blood pressure monitor. This is because blood pressure is an “invisible” parameter of our body function. Although extremely important, it is hidden from the human eye and only a smart and medically savvy person can indirectly appreciate high blood pressure from its symptoms.
Although the most precise way to measure blood pressure is to use a blood pressure monitor, there are a few signs and things which can help someone evaluate whether he has high or low blood pressure. The most intuitive and easy to measure sign is heart rate. The heart rate is correlated with blood pressure because heart propulsion creates more pressure. A higher heart rate usually means a higher blood pressure. A lower heart rate usually means lower blood pressure. Each heart beat pushes a localized collection of blood through blood vessels creating more pressure on the arterial walls.
Another sign of low blood pressure is dizziness. This is because low blood pressure means less oxygen to the brain. Nose bleeding is a sign of high blood pressure because small capillaries in the nose are especially sensitive to an increase in blood pressure. These are indirect signs that can help one appreciate blood pressure values.
